Parent Power 2024: An Experience That Lit a Fire!
What started as a trip to Washington D.C. for the National Parents Union meeting, "Parent Power 2024: Hitting the Hill," turned into something far more profound. I went with a heart full of curiosity and a thirst to learn, but by the end, I was overflowing with inspiration, gratitude, and a burning desire to make a difference.
From Lunch to Breakout Session: A Whirlwind of Learning
Little did I know, within a couple of hours of arriving, I'd be presenting at a breakout session!
The energy in the room was electric, and the sessions that followed were intense and incredibly valuable. They put me in the perfect frame of mind for the evening's events.
Dinner and Inspiration: A Night to Remember
Dinner was followed by a powerful keynote address from Secretary Miguel Cardona. He called all of us parents the "best of the best," which was incredibly humbling and truly lit a fire under me. There was also a wonderful fireside chat that night, and before the speaker left, I had to snag a picture, even if it was a bit of a fail.

Day Two: Thankfulness, Powerful Voices, and Busy Halls
The next day started with breakfast, and the positive energy was palpable. I stopped Keri Rodrigues, President of the National Parents Union, to express my deepest gratitude for the opportunity to be there.

Later, we headed to the U.S. Capitol, where we heard from Senators Cassidy and Reed.
Senator Jack Reed
U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D.
The halls were buzzing with activity, and we squeezed in meetings with staffers in various offices.
Even in the middle of a very busy day, I took a moment to meet with Miss Alaska Hannah Utic
The highlight of the day, for me, was finally meeting with Senators Bennet and Wyden.

Mental Health, Tight Spaces, and a Race to the Finish
That night, Jake Auchincloss, Chair of the Congressional Dads Caucus, spoke about the critical issue of mental health in teens and the impact of social media.

The final day found us at the U.S. Department of Education, crammed into one of the tightest meetings I've ever been in – and I loved it! (Seriously, the more the merrier when it comes to sharing ideas!). We squeezed in seven amazing speakers in just two hours, all dispensing invaluable information.
Back Home, But Forever Changed
By the time I hit the road back home, my head was spinning with everything I'd learned and the incredible people I'd met. This wasn't just a conference; it was a movement. A movement of passionate parents, educators, and policymakers all working together to create a brighter future for our children. I left feeling empowered, equipped, and deeply grateful for this incredible experience. The fire is lit, and I can't wait to see what we can accomplish together!
